About
Why I built this
I kept restarting chapter one. Not because the first chapter was wrong, but because starting over felt safer than finding out whether the rest of the book held up. A blank page is not the problem. Deciding the whole book before you have written a word of it is.
Every writing tool I tried solved the wrong half of that. Some would write a paragraph for me if I asked, which meant the finished pages were not entirely mine anymore. Others just gave me a bigger blank page and called it an outline. Neither one addressed the actual habit: restarting instead of continuing.
StoryStretch is built around a narrower idea. Break the book into layers small enough that the only decision left is the one in front of you. Check the word count and the structure, not the prose, so the bar you have to clear is honest and the words are still yours. The tool never writes a sentence of your book. It only tells you whether what you wrote clears the bar, then hands you the next small thing to do.
It is a strict tool on purpose. If you want something to write for you, this is not it. If you want something that will not let you quietly abandon a book by never finishing chapter one, that is what I built it to do.
